Having the PICC Line removed

29/06/2020

Thankfully I was able to have my PICC line removed after my last treatment. I was really nervous for this as I didn't know what to expect. I can tell you all now it did not hurt one bit and was out in a few seconds. It was just carefully pulled out of my arm, there is a strange feeling for a second or two, but no pain. Some people have a clip under the skin that holds the PICC line in place throughout treatment which I have heard can be a bit nippy getting removed. I did not have one of these so I did not feel any pain.

I also thought that once it was pulled out there would be blood all over it, but as you can see in the photo to the right the line was completely clean. This photo was took as soon as the line was removed.

Once the line in removed, a dressing is applied to stop any bleeding, but this is very little. I kept the bandage on for 24 hours and when I took it off the wound was already healing.
